Newcastle United have confirmed that German goalkeeper Loris Karius is staying at St James' Park.
The 29-year-old will remain on the books until the end of the season after impressing on a short-term deal as cover for Karl Darlow and Mark Gillespie at the start of the campaign. Karius played in Newcastle's friendly win over Al-Hilal but is yet to make a senior appearance.
A short Newcastle statement read: "Newcastle United can confirm that Loris Karius will remain with the club until the end of the 2022/23 season.

"The German goalkeeper initially joined the Magpies on a short-term deal in September 2022 with an option to extend his stay until June 2023."
Speaking on his own future back in December, Karius told Chronicle Live from Saudi Arabia, during the club's winter tour, that he was enjoying his time at the club. He said: "How I was welcomed by the whole group makes me believe I can achieve more things here. That’s my aim, to be here for a long project instead of a short one."
The contract extension leaves Newcastle with a decision to make on their other goalkeepers with Darlow, Gillespie, Karius, Martin Dubravka and Nick Pope all on the books.
