Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi issues rallying cry ahead of Brighton showdown

Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has issued a 'call to arms' for supporters ahead of the potentially crucial home clash with Brighton. The Magpies could take a huge stride towards sealing a top-four finish with victory over the Seagulls on Thursday night.

Liverpool's late surge has put both Newcastle United and Manchester United under pressure for qualifying for the Champions League next season. Jurgen Klopp's side recorded a seventh straight win with a comfortable 3-0 victory at Leicester City on Monday night, and currently sit a point behind their top-four rivals having played a game more.

Eddie Howe knows two victories from their remaining three fixtures would mathematically secure a place in the Champions League, with Brighton the first of two home matches in quick succession. The Magpies finish the season with a trip to face struggling Chelsea, although their fate could be decided before then if Liverpool fail to beat Aston Villa on Saturday.

He posted on Wednesday night: "This is a call to arms for all of you attending the game at St James’ Park tomorrow night. We need you voices to be loud and your scarves held high. Roar like lions - you are the 12th man and your team needs you!!"
