Here is your latest 4am Newcastle United transfer digest.
Majer interest?
Newcastle's transfer chiefs are content with their business so far, with Yankuba Minteh already through the door and Sandro Tonali soon to follow. This is despite fears among the Toon Army after watching James Maddison and Dominik Szoboszlai make their moves to Tottenham and Liverpool respectively, with the Hungary international reportedly on Merseyside to complete a deal.
Reports suggest the Magpies also failed in their efforts to land Adrien Rabiot, with the France international signing a one-year contract extension with Juventus. Now, Fichajes claim United have turned their attention to Lovro Majer as they look to bring in another midfielder.
The Croatia international has previously been likened to fellow countryman Luka Modric, and has impressed with Rennes. The report outlines how the 25-year-old could command a fee of up to £35m million.
Szoboszlai truth
Newcastle decided against pursuing their interest in Szoboszlai after opting to conclude a deal for Sandro Tonali. That is according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who insisted the RB Leipzig star did not 'reject' the Magpies as he closes in on a transfer to Liverpool.

He told Caught Offside: “Liverpool and RB Leipzig have started to exchange documents to finalise the Dominik Szoboszlai deal, and he’s been to Merseyside for medical tests. It looks like all the paperwork has been approved, while the player has also had a direct call with Jurgen Klopp as this nears completion.
“To be clear – the Szoboszlai deal was not linked to Fabio Carvalho and his loan move to Leipzig. Liverpool already had Szoboszlai’s name in mind a long time ago, then they decided with Klopp to enter the race in strong way last week. Szoboszlai was immediately excited for this possibility.
“Despite links with Newcastle, it’s not about the money or Champions League football or anything like that – Newcastle were simply focused on the Sandro Tonali deal and Liverpool decided to go for Szoboszlai, very simple. The player didn’t reject one club for another, he didn’t have to choose, Newcastle never triggered his clause, Liverpool did.”
