Newcastle are keen to keep splashing the cash after making Matt Targett their first summer signing in a £15million deal from Aston Villa.
Defence is a priority and Newcastle have identified alternatives if they cannot land their No 1 target Dutch international Sven Botman from Lille. The Magpies have offered £30million for Botman and will move on if he continues to hold out on them because he prefers a move to Serie A champions AC Milan.
Newcastle are also interested in Burnley's England goalkeeper Nick Pope, but not at the £40million fee being quoted by the Clarets.
Mirror Sport has the latest transfer news, including updates on Pope and Hugo Ekitike.
Newcastle in the hunt for England goalkeeper Nick Pope
The Newcastle Chronicle claim Newcastle could be aided in their pursuit of Nick Pope by the players' desire to return to the Premier League.
Newcastle are keen on Pope, along with West Ham and Nottingham Forest, and the Clarets reportedly want £40million for him. Newcastle are not prepared to pay this sum for Pope as they look to overhaul their goalkeeping department with Freddie Woodman joining Preston.
Pope could put pressure on Burnley to lower their asking price and he is keen to join a Premier League club to help him retain his England place ahead of the World Cup after working so hard to force his way back into Gareth Southgate's squad.
PSG emerge as rivals to Newcastle for teenage French star
The NUFC Blog are reporting claims in France by RMC Sport that Paris St Germain have emerged as rivals to Newcastle in the race for French teen talent Hugo Ekitike.
Newcastle have reportedly offered £31million for Ekitike with another £8.5million in add-ons and have shaken on personal terms with the Stade de Reims striker. It is now being reported that PSG, who have been credited with an interest in Ekitike before, have made a move for the 19-year-old through their new transfer guru Luis Campos.
This could seriously complicate things for Newcastle when they thought they were close to a deal and Borussia Dortmund are also said to be interested.
Barcelona clause could scupper Newcastle move for Brazil wonderkid
Newcastle are reportedly keen on Santos' wonderkid Angelo Gabriel, who is tipped to be Brazil's next superstar.
Gabriel, 17, is the youngest player to score in South America's Copa Libertadores and the third youngest to represent Santos, the club of Pepe and Neymar. Newcastle's chief scout Steve Nickson has identified him for the Toon, but Newcastle World are reporting that Barcelona have first option on signing Gabriel.
The winger, who has 18 months left on his Santos deal, is a Brazil Under-17 international and is already valued at nearly £10million.
