Maddison verdict
Newcastle United had two summer bids knocked back for James Maddison, and the Magpies could be tempted to make a fresh approach in January. The Leicester City playmaker has entered the final two years of his contract, and this could pave the way for a cut-price exit in the coming months.
The Foxes will reportedly look to resist any January bids for Maddison. The 26-year-old would likely attract interest from other Premier League clubs, but talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor believes the attacking midfielder would be a 'perfect' recruit at St James' Park.

He told Football Insider: “James Maddison would be perfect for Newcastle. I think he suits what they are about and would fit nicely into that team. Maddison would be perfect.”
Trossard claim
Leandro Trossard's fine start to the season has reportedly put the Brighton star on the radar of a host of Premier League clubs. Newcastle are among those linked, with club scouts watching the Belgian international during his country's ill-fated World Cup campaign.
The Magpies' club-record move for Alexander Isak has seemingly not deterred Eddie Howe from looking to bolster his attacking options. Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie believes Trossard would 'tick a lot of boxes', and would not be surprised to see the Magpies test Brighton's resolve in the near future.
Downie told Give Me Sport: “I think Trossard would be a really good fit. I can see why he’s being mentioned, and I could see that being the sort of player that Eddie Howe would welcome to the club.
“He’s young, he’s already an international player, he’s played in the Premier League before and he ticks a lot of boxes.”
