Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe made plenty of changes for the Carabao Cup clash against Crystal Palace at St James' Park.
Howe surprised some by naming Nick Pope in goal rather than Karl Darlow or Loris Karius while Javier Manquillo started in his first match since the 5-1 thrashing at Spurs last term. Jamaal Lascelles captained the team and partnered Dan Burn in the heart of defence.
Matt Targett started only his fifth match of the season while there were starts for Jonjo Shelvey, Sean Longstaff and Joelinton in midfield.

Youngster Elliot Anderson, Chris Wood and Allan Saint-Maximin led the line of attack. And there was no shortage of experience and quality on the bench.
Man of the moment Miguel Almiron was on the bench while Bruno Guimaraes, Joe Willock and Jacob Murphy offered creative and offensive options. Kieran Trippier, Fabian Schar and Sven Botman were the back-up defenders.
