Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes gets handy pre-season bonus after schedule change

Bruno Guimaraes' pre-season break has officially started with the Brazilian taking to social media to celebrate the fact he can enjoy a well-earned holiday. The Newcastle United midfielder has been on international duty this week, helping his country to wins over Japan and South Korea.

Guimaraes and his Brazil team-mates were meant to still be together, preparing for another fixture later in June. However, with Argentina pulling out of the proposed clash, players from both nations can now enjoy an extended break.

The June 11 match in Melbourne had been planned as part of Brazil's preparations for the World Cup in Qatar later this year, but the event organisers and Brazilian federation last month announced the game was called off due to Argentina refusing to travel.

"Regrettably, event organisers have been informed by Pitch, the Superclasico June 11 2022 match agent, that contrary to their prior agreement and commitment to do so, Argentina are no longer prepared to travel to Australia for the match against Brazil," organisers said in a statement.

“I think they owe Australian football fans an explanation because they haven’t provided an acceptable explanation to the promoter,” Victoria’s events and sports minister Martin Pakula said. “I know Brazil is very upset. It’s really impacting their preparation for the World Cup.

“It’s a game that would have been extremely popular here in Melbourne. I welcome the comments by the promoter overnight that all the fans will receive a full refund.”

Guimaraes didn't seem to care too much, posting on social media, "Now is vacation mode" hours after Brazil's final game with Japan. The 24-year-old also shared a snap with Lyon star, Newcastle target and best mate Lucas Paqueta on Tuesday.

The two players posed together, with Guimaraes captioning the Tweet: "When you play with your best friend! Love u my bro." Paqueta continues to be linked with a move to Tyneside but Lyon will demand a hefty fee.
