Newcastle star blasts Arsenal's Granit Xhaka - "People don’t talk like this to me"

Newcastle star Callum Wilson has hit out at Granit Xhaka for his antics during Arsenal's win over the Magpies last Sunday.

A first-half strike from Martin Odegaard and Fabian Schar's late own-goal ensured the Gunners took home all three points. Mikel Arteta 's men claimed the win despite having less possession and less shots than their hosts.

The visitors were also accused of frequent timewasting as the game entered the closing stages as they looked to hold onto their win. One incident in particular saw Xhaka fall to the ground with an injured groin, with Wilson going over to pick him up.

The Magpies star has now launched a furious blast of the Swiss midfielder and Arsenal's tactics as a whole at St James' Park. Coventry-born Wilson revealed his frustration with Xhaka and sent him a warning.

"He has sat down with his groin (injury) and he is smiling away like there is nothing even wrong with him," Wilson told The Footballer’s Football Show when speaking about the Swiss captain.

"I am like 'get up'. He is obviously just wasting time. I think every one of their players went down at some point and got the physio on. And got up after a couple of minutes of delay.

"They obviously come with that clear tactic. When you are the home team trying to get momentum in the game, it frustrates you. Then you are trying to pick him up and he starts talking.

"You know what it’s like. You are from the streets, you don’t allow people to talk to you like that. I am like, off the pitch, people don’t talk like this to me, so I am not going to allow it on the pitch."

Gunners boss Arteta hit back at the accusations of timewasting, insisting his side had merely done what they needed to in order to secure a win. He hailed his side for their resilience and believes they did nothing wrong.

When asked whether the Gunners had time-wasted, he said: "For sure our team is not like that. I don’t even want to get close to that conversation with the game we played today. We’ve done what we had to do to win the game and I’m very happy with that.

"It was not only about playing or dominating certain phases. It’s about game management against a strong team. They were huge in the way they played and managed the game, and we had to do that even better than them, and I’m really happy with how we did it.

"We have won at difficult grounds this season - we’ve done it really consistently, but like you said in different ways. In this game, they managed something different compared to Stamford Bridge, but we did what the game demanded, and that was really smart from us."
