Newcastle staff member's farewell message as he leaves for Premier League rival after 7 months

Physiotherapist James Haycock has wished Newcastle United 'all the best going forward' after leaving for Crystal Palace following just seven months at the club.

Haycock started his career at Newcastle's academy in 2001 and returned to the Magpies as a first-team physio last August after spells at Spurs, Arsenal, Huddersfield Town and Hartlepool United.

Eagle-eyed supporters may have recognised Haycock, who is also the Wales senior men's team physio, as the figure who ran on the field to treat a Newcastle player when he went down injured during a game.

However, the Teesside University graduate has now taken up a new role as Palace's head of physiotherapy.

"After a really enjoyable stint at Newcastle United, I am delighted to have joined Crystal Palace as head of physiotherapy," Haycock confirmed on LinkedIn.

"Looking forward to this exciting new chapter and wishing my former club and medical colleagues all the best going forward."

It is important to stress this was a rare opportunity for Haycock to become a head physio at a Premier League club after he previously fulfilled a similar role at Huddersfield.

Indeed, to put the scarcity of jobs into perspective, Ed Richmond, Haycock's predecessor at Palace, had been in the post for five-and-a-half years before moving on to Leicester.

That role at Leicester only became available in the first place after Dave Rennie left the Foxes following more than two decades at the club.

Haycock also has links in the capital after spending nearly six years at Spurs and Arsenal.
