Newcastle 'set sights' on Luke Shaw and more Manchester United transfer rumours

Newcastle United are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United defender Luke Shaw.

Erik ten Hag has favoured new signing Tyrell Malacia to Shaw at left-back this season. The England international has not started a game for United since the bruising 4-0 defeat to Brentford, where Malacia replaced him at half-time.

According to Football Insider, Newcastle are now keeping tabs on Shaw as they look to bolster their defensive options. The report claims that Eddie Howe's side view the United defender as an upgrade on Matt Targett and Dan Burn, two players who have both played at left-back for Newcastle so far this season.

Shaw is in the final year of his contract at the club, and despite United having the option to extend the deal by a further year, it is thought the Reds could be open to accepting an offer from Newcastle should they wish to cash in on the 27-year-old while they still can.

Elsewhere, Italian outlet Calciomercato claim (via TEAMtalk) that United are stepping up their efforts to sign Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries.

The report claims that United are preparing an offer for Dumfries, as Ten Hag looks to upgrade his options at right-back. Despite Diogo Dalot's recent impressive performances, it is thought that the Dutchman still sees the position as an area that needs improvement in January.
