A cafe in Newcastle has been named among the top vegan and vegetarian restaurants in the UK.
The family-run Little Green Social opened in 2018 in Sandyford serving up an imaginative vegan menu - before the growing trend for plant-based food - alongside extras such as holistic treatments, music nights, art classes and children's crafts.
And from small beginnings its reputation has spread far and wide, and now it is set to attract even more custom following its inclusion in The Times' list of the 30 best vegan and vegetarian restaurants in the UK.
Its national list of the best meat-free venues, which readers are told "even carnivores will love", also includes The Waiting Room vegetarian restaurant in Eaglescliffe, Stockton.
Little Green Social, which also has a health food shop, is a first business for Sarah Cochrane, a lecturer, and husband Gareth Zeal, a nutrition expert who also does monthly talks there.
Its shop sells health foods and ethical cosmetics and it has a refill station to help save on plastic waste.
A family affair, the venture also has been supported by Sarah's actor-musician brother Micky, star of Ed Waugh play Carrying David which is having a April 9-10 run at the Theatre Royal in Newcastle .
Audience members who show their tickets at Little Green Social on those days will receive 20% off their meal cost.
The Waiting Room restaurant in Stockton, which also features in the Sunday Times list , has been established for 25 years and is a previous winner of a Best Restaurant in the UK award from The Vegetarian Society.
