Newcastle's Grainger Market gets a Redheads Mac N Cheese hot food takeaway

After making their name at events around Newcastle and the North East, Redheads Mac N Cheese have opened a permanent stall in the city centre.

Macaroni cheese is a filling and comforting dish, often served as plain as can be. But in America that is often not the case.

Newcastle 's Grainger Market , home to an increasing number of cafes, takeaways and food specialists representing cuisines from across the world, now has a US-style macaroni cheese stall.

There are many varieties and additions at Redheads and a regularly changing menu which currently includes Chorizo (spicy sausage) mac n cheese with garlic breadcrumbs and extra Parmesan at £6, Sticky Rib with the rib meat, chilli and spring onions at £7, a vegan version with mild curry flavour and no cheese at £6 as well as loaded nachos and kids' meals.

There are a couple of tables next to the stall, first announced in August , for those who prefer to eat in the 184-year-old covered market.

Redheads' red-headed chef Jamie Pagett said after Saturday's opening: "It was a very good first day and was really busy, which was great."

He grew to love the meal during time living in America and now runs the business with his mother-in-law Jen Russo-Belle, regularly appearing at festivals, the Newcastle Quayside market and other events with a pop-up stall.
