Newcastle 'rival' Manchester United for £60m Darwin Nunez and more transfer rumours

Newcastle are planning a move for Manchester United 'target' Darwin Nunez during the summer transfer window, according to reports.

Speculation over the Benfica prospect is at fever pitch as he enjoys an eye-catching season for the Portuguese side. Nunez, 22, has scored 25 goals in 32 games across all competitions and has emerged at Old Trafford as a reported alternative to Borussia Dortmund sensation Erling Haaland. As things stand, Benfica are thought to want £60million for his services.

Following a seismic £305million takeover, Newcastle are effectively the richest club in world football and continue to be linked with several high-profile players. According to iNews, the Magpies were quoted £50million for Nunez in January — but that would-be fee has risen.

That's owing to an increased number of suitors and his ever-increasing goals tally. United have previously been touted as possible suitors for the Uruguayan. Nunez is under contract at Benfica until 2025.

Elsewhere, former Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell has advised the Gunners to stay away from Marcus Rashford. After progressing through the Old Trafford ranks, England forward Rashford is thought to be considering his options and Arsenal have been touted as one potential destination. Paris Saint-Germain have, too, been linked as the French Ligue 1 side prepare to lose Kylian Mbappe to Spanish giants Real Madrid this summer.

Speaking to Football Insider about reported interest from Arsenal, pundit Campbell said: "I understand the rumours, but Marcus Rashford is Manchester United through and through. Why would he leave United?

"Arsenal have [Gabriel] Martinelli, [Bukayo] Saka and [Emile] Smith Rowe doing the business. Getting another one in to challenge them? I don't see it. Arsenal need a striker, but Rashford's not a number nine, definitely not. He's not the answer to the striker situation either."
