Newcastle United have previous when it comes to refusing to take no for an answer in the transfer market. The Magpies, who are still to sign any players this month, look set to repeat that tactic once again in the final days of the January window.
Newcastle are actively trying to get a deal over the line for Anthony Gordon in the coming days, with Chronicle Live understanding the player is keen on a move to St James' Park. The player was also of interest back in the summer as Everton refused to budge on their inflated valuation of the 21-year-old.
Gordon missed Everton training on three separate occasions this week but returned to the club's Finch Farm base on Friday in the latest twist in this ongoing saga. Gordon is still expected to depart before the end of January despite his training U-turn.

Much has been made as to whether Gordon is the player Newcastle need, if he has the correct temperament, or if he can win over unconvinced Geordie supporters. However, it is telling that St James' Park chiefs have gone back in for the winger after being snubbed in the summer.
Newcastle's hierarchy enjoyed similar success at the start of the season by moving for Sven Botman after missing out on the Dutchman just months prior. The defender was high on Newcastle's list of priorities in January 2022 before Lille refused to let the youngster leave Ligue 1.
That didn't put the north east outfit off, with Newcastle wasting no time getting a deal over the line after the summer transfer window opened for business. The results are well-documented, with Botman enjoying a fantastic start to life on Tyneside.
A deal for Gordon, should Newcastle be able to force Everton into dropping their price this weekend, would show once again the board are happy to bide their time for targets they feel are the right for Eddie Howe's squad.
Newcastle are depleted in attack after the unexpected Chris Wood exit earlier this month. The striker wasn't due to leave the club until Nottingham Forest arrived with an offer Newcastle couldn't refuse.
That has shifted focus at the club, with defensive or midfield additions no longer prioritised in recent days. Gordon would give Howe another option at the top end of the pitch and fits the profile of players currently being scouted by Steve Nickson and Dan Ashworth.
