Newcastle receive triple fitness boost ahead of Manchester United Carabao Cup final

Newcastle United have received a triple injury boost ahead of Sunday's Carabao Cup final with Joe Willock, Matt Targett and Joelinton likely to be available.

The Magpies trio were spotted in training as Eddie Howe prepares his squad for this weekend's clash against Manchester United at Wembley, having been handed a full week to focus on the clash with no midweek football while the Reds host Barcelona in the Europa League on Thursday evening.

Willock missed Newcastle's 2-0 defeat at home to Liverpool last weekend with a hamstring injury and Howe admitted during a media day on Tuesday that the midfielder was 'touch and go' for the final, while Joelinton was taken off against Jurgen Klopp's side as a precaution.

The Brazilian had picked up a minor knock, with Howe deciding to take no risks with his side already two goals and one man down at St. James' Park.

Left-back Matt Targett had been absent since Boxing Day with a heel injury but featured for the under-21s side over the weekend, with the Magpies boss already admitting he will be available for selection come Sunday. Dan Burn had been filling in capably since and could keep his place again at Wembley.

United received their own boost ahead of a crucial four-day period in which they host Barcelona at Old Trafford before the weekend's trip to London, with Antony and Harry Maguire both spotted in training and Erik ten Hag confirming they are expected to be available.

"We still have the training to go but I expect Harry Maguire and Antony are available," Erik ten Hag said. "Anthony Martial is not available. He's back, he's back on the pitch. Not back in team training so we wait for that.

"What we do differently (from the first leg) you we will see tomorrow on the pitch. We have an idea, of course, but we can't tell that now."

The Dutchman will provide a fresh update on the state of his squad after Thursday's Europa League second leg.
