Newcastle pull out of race for Jesse Lingard and other Manchester United transfer rumours

Newcastle United have reportedly backed off from negotiations with Jesse Lingard due to his demands.

The midfielder is one of a number of players set to leave the club this summer when their contracts run dry. The England international was denied an Old Trafford farewell against Brentford earlier this month after a rough few years.

There are a number of potential suitors for Lingard. Former loan club West Ham are among those interested.

But money-drenched Newcastle have turned their noses up at the 29-year-old due to his wage demands. The Telegraph reports that he is asking for a £150,000 weekly wage packet as well as a signing on fee.

Newcastle are unwilling to shell out such a big amount each payday in fear that it could set a precedent for other recruits and current squad members. Meanwhile, Arsenal have joined the race for United target Konrad Laimer.

The 24-year-old midfielder was recommended to United by Ralf Rangnick and now they face a challenge for his signature from the Gunners, according to 90min. The Austrian is out of contract next year and RB Leipzig may be willing to offload him now rather than let him leave for nothing next summer.
