Newcastle prioritise Jesse Lingard transfer as Watford target Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson

Newcastle have dropped their interest in Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson to resurrect a loan move for Jesse Lingard, with Watford now interested in Henderson.

The Manchester Evening News revealed on Sunday Newcastle had shortlisted Lingard and Henderson among their potential deadline day loan options but a Premier League club can only loan in one player from another Premier League club.

Negotiations between Newcastle and United over Lingard collapsed last week after United insisted on a survival bonus but the relegation strugglers are now prepared to meet United's demands for a bonus.

West Ham enquired about Lingard again on deadline day, having approached United earlier in the month, but United remain reluctant to strengthen a top four rival despite David Moyes' optimism over re-signing Lingard on loan.

Lingard joined West Ham on loan last year and scored nine goals in 16 games to help them qualify for the Europa League. Although Lingard's preference is to return to London he is prepared to play for 18th-placed Newcastle on loan.

Watford, below Newcastle in 19th, have enquired about Henderson to arrest their goalkeeping issues. Ben Foster and Daniel Bachmann have started almost an equal number of league games this season and Watford appointed Roy Hodgson as their new manager last week.

Henderson, 24, informed interim United manager Ralf Rangnick of his wish to leave last month and Ajax held preliminary discussions about a potential loan.

Lingard and Henderson both reported for training at United's Carrington complex on Monday morning with the rest of the squad.
