Newcastle pizzeria Twenty Twenty launches city's only late-night brunch and this is what's on the menu

A Newcastle pizzeria is serving up the "city's only late-night brunch" featuring giant pizza slices, popcorn and beer.

Twenty Twenty has been hugely popular since it opened in the city's Bigg Market in November last year, with weekends fully booked by eager diners weeks in advance. Owners Darren Todd-Smith and Mark Stevenson took over the former premises of Bonsers camera shop during the pandemic to launch their restaurant which takes its name from the whopping 20-inch pizzas and 20 cocktails it serves.

The pair, who have extensive experience in city centre hospitality, found themselves out of work as the impacts of the pandemic hit the sector hard. However, they took that time as an opportunity to launch their own venture.

"Me and my business partner both found ourselves out of work through the pandemic," Darren said.

"The venue where he was working as a general manager went into administration and my student events business was unable to operate as nightclubs were closed. We used the time to plan and build Twenty Twenty on Bigg Market which opened in November 2021."

Since then Twenty Twenty has offered a 'basic bottomless brunch' for £25 featuring 20 inch sharing pizzas, popcorn and dips, as well as bottomless prosecco, bellinis, mimosas and beer. Now, its soaring popularity has led to the launch of what it believes to be the only late-night brunch in the city.

The 'Supper Club' brunch is held between 9pm and 11pm, from Wednesday to Sunday, offering bottomless cocktails, prosecco and beer along with giant pizza slices and popcorn for £35. And it's already said to be a hit with people looking for somewhere to eat after seeing shows and gigs in the city.

"We launched our daytime brunch offerings first and it surprised us how quickly it took off," Darren said.

"The huge pizzas and unique cocktail menu have been very popular. For Saturday daytimes we’re fully booked for weeks in advance and we saw a gap in the market to capitalise on that success with a similar evening offering.

"Supper Club launched in mid-January and it’s gone really well. It’s a really nice addition to our evening trade pulling in a good mix of people from those looking for somewhere to end the night, some that are just starting and lots that have come from shows and gigs.

"We’ve had so much positive feedback from it and people are always so shocked by how big the pizza slices are."
