THE lifeguard first aid room at Newcastle Ocean Baths was broken into overnight.

City of Newcastle confirmed no equipment was stolen and the facility "sustained only minor damage" which was being repaired by staff on Friday, November 1.

"City of Newcastle strongly condemns this activity, as it damages much-loved shared community spaces, and can be dangerous and costly to repair," a City of Newcastle spokesperson said.

Council confirmed the incident had been reported to police.

Anyone with information was urged to contact Newcastle police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Pictures taken at the Newcastle Ocean Baths on Friday morning, before sunrise, showed what appeared to be a lifeguard board and a water-friendly wheelchair floating in the baths.

They also appeared to show glass smashed across the concrete area next to the water.

"All security lighting at Newcastle Ocean Baths continues to function normally," a City of Newcastle spokesperson said.
