Newcastle loan signing Matt Targett unmasked as huge Geordie Shore fan as old tweets resurface

It appears that a move to Newcastle United was written in the stars for loan signing Matt Targett as he's been unmasked as a big fan of Geordie Shore.

Matt, 26, made the temporary switch from Aston Villa to NUFC earlier this week.

The left-back described as 'Mr Consistent' became the latest player to be snapped up by new Magpies boss after the signings of Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimarães and Dan Burn.

Clearly excited about the move, Matt took to Twitter to post: "So proud to have signed for @NUFC until the end of the season.

"Can’t wait to get started! I’m ready to give my all to this club as we head into a very important few months. Looking forward to seeing you all at St James’ Park."

And, speaking of Matt's Twitter account, it's old posts from there that have been circulating online, which saw defender Matt share his levels of commitment to Geordie Shore.

The posts from a then teenage Matt in 2012 and 2013, show that he was very invested in the MTV show filmed in Newcastle, which made big stars of the likes of Charlotte Crosby, Gaz Beadle and Vicky Pattison its early days.

The tweets were uncovered by Magpies fan Jack Hall, who posted a selection of them, along with the caption: "@Mattytargett was always destined to join #NUFC"

One of the earlier ones from August 2012, saw Matt lament: "Gonna miss Geordie Shore ):" with a more upbeat one for the start of series 5 in February 2013, reading: "Can't wait for geordie shore tonight."

In other Geordie Shore themed tweets, Matt talked about the show "getting emotional," and "Charlotte kicking off."

Another tweet read: "Gaz and Scott #lads," and letting Scotty T know he'd got a mention from Newcastle's new signing, one fan tweeted: "@ScottGShore targett loves you"
