Several horror-filled nights of film screenings are set to play out in Newcastle and the setting for the event is probably the spookiest part of all.
Fans of spine-tinglers can book seats for a Halloween -theme programme, which includes classics such as Nosferatu the Vampyre and The Exorcist, and they will be taking their seats to watch them within the ancient walls of Newcastle Keep. The ancient building promises to be an atmospheric location for the movies which also include The Rocky Horror Picture Show on October 8 and Hocus Pocus on October 21.
The tone then turns a bit darker with the two seventies chillers. The 1979 horror Nosferatu, starring Klaus Kinski as Count Dracula, will screen on October 23 followed by The Exorcist, the famous 1973 supernatural horror, on October 28.

While the films may not feature the gore of modern-day slasher-shockers, they are set to work their old spell with the help of the Keep's centuries-old surroundings. Newcastle Castle - Keep and adjacent Black Gate - hosts regular films and talks and the latter includes Halloween-theme topics.
At The Black Gate there will be a talk on bodysnatchers on October 8; dissection on October 15 and witchcraft on October 22. And the Keep also will be hosting an All Hallow's Eve Exclusive Tour on the night of Halloween itself, October 31.
This will take in dark chambers and passageways of the 12th century tower accompanied by stories of its gory past - followed by refreshments in the Great Hall. Then, once October is out of the way, the mood is set to lighten at Newcastle Castle.
In the run-up to Christmas, film fans can look forward to the likes of The Polar Express, The Muppets Christmas Carol and Elf, as well as theatre shows. For ticket information on all the screenings, talks and events see here.
