Newcastle interest in Jesse Lingard hinges on one demand and other Manchester United rumours

Newcastle United will only entertain a deal with Jesse Lingard if he agrees to reduce his wage demands, according to reports.

The midfielder is one of four out-of-contract players to leave Manchester United this summer, Paul Pogba being another. Money-backed Newcastle are expected to have a statement summer transfer window with it being their first since the takeover.

One of their targets is Lingard, but negotiations hit a stumbling block when they learned of the player’s salary expectations. There had been suggestions that the Magpies has backed away from a deal, but it seems this is not entirely the case.

ESPN reports that Newcastle are still willing to enter talks with his representatives, but only if he agrees to lower his £150,000-a-week wage packet demands. It adds that agents of targeted players, like Lingard's, are holding off to assess their early-window transfer activity before giving the green light to a St James’ Park move for their clients.

Meanwhile, Correio da Manha claims Porto are willing to pounce for former player Alex Telles should United put him up for sale. The Brazilian has enjoyed more game time than expected this season, starting 17 league fixtures in all.

In April, the defender revealed his desire to one day return to the newly-crowned Portuguese champions. He has been one of the players tipped for a summer exit when incoming boss Erik ten Hag arrives.

However, the effective transfer listing of Brandon Williams following his loan spell at Norwich has made this less likely, given that his departure would mean the injury-prone Luke Shaw would have only Alvaro Fernandez for cover.
