Newcastle Injury Update: Howe Confirms Isak & Barnes Status

Eddie Howe has given a fresh injury update for Newcastle, as Harvey Barnes is set to miss a month and Alexander Isak should feature against Wolves.

Newcastle Injury Update

During their FA Cup win over League Two Bromley, Newcastle were dealt another injury concern as Harvey Barnes suffered a muscular issue.

The Englishman was forced off at half-time at St James’ Park and Eddie Howe revealed the latest on Barnes’ condition in his recent press conference.

Howe said: “He’s had a scan. It’s not too bad, but he will miss the upcoming games. We’re looking at around a month.”

The Magpies will welcome Wolves in their next Premier League fixture and they have an extended list of possible absentees.

Sven Botman, Jacob Murphy, Joe Willock and Alexander Isak all missed the FA Cup clash, however, Howe is confident that each player will be available soon.

He said: “We’ll have a look at them again today. They were left out with genuine reasons, all different things, but nothing major we hope. So minor problems that we needed to settle down. Fingers crossed, they’ll be there or thereabouts.”

The standout name from that list of players is Newcastle’s leading scorer, Alexander Isak, who can set a record at Newcastle by scoring in eight consecutive Premier League matches.

Since returning from injury, the Swedish international has been on fire scoring against Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal while also bagging his first Premier League hat-trick against Ipswich Town.

Howe commented on Isak’s injury, saying: “We have to be careful of course. That’s why I did what I did against Arsenal. He is such a valuable player. Fingers crossed he will be fine and take his place in the team.”

He said: “He (Isak) is desperate to play. Those runs I’m not really too focused on, and I’m not too interested in, but I understand the individuals will care deeply about them.

I’d love Alex to continue to score. I think the most important thing for me is that the team is functioning well for him and he’s functioning well for the team. The two things go hand in hand together.

“We have looked like scoring goals recently, that’s such a big thing for our confidence levels. He’s played a big part in that, hopefully that continues.”
