Newcastle hotels soar in price for night of Sam Fender's 2023 gig

Sam Fender will play at St James' Park in June 2023, but hotel prices in Newcastle are reaching absurd prices as fans try to book a place to stay. Sam will play at Newcastle United's home ground on June, 9, and tickets for the event go on sale this Friday, September 9 on Ticketmaster and SeeTickets.

The Newcastle gig is expected to be one of the city's hottest music events, as rock band the Inhalers and Holly Humblestone kick the night off as support artists. Fans from across the UK are travelling to Newcastle for the weekend to see Sam play at the biggest stadium in the north east, and what Sam described on his socials as a 'childhood dream come true'. But this added demand to see him perform live has rocketed the prices of local hotels.

Hotel prices in Newcastle city centre, near St James' Stadium, are coming in at an astounding £500 a night, on any generic day of the year these rooms would normally go for around £80 a night.

The Sandman Signature Hotel is a short walk from the venue but is charging a lot of money to stay on the weekend Sam Fender is playing. To be exact, the rate on Friday, June 9 is £593 for a standard room, the Saturday, June 10 is £692, so for any fan wanting to a make a 'weekend out of it' in Newcastle it would set them back a total of £1,285.

On any other day of the year prices for a weekend are as low as £89 per night.

A spokesperson for the Sandman Signature Hotel in Newcastle said: “Our pricing varies every night and is based on a large number of algorithmic factors taking into account events taking place in the city, rates of other hotels in Newcastle and customer demand - along with a host of other indicators.

"As the closest hotel in Newcastle to St. James’ Park, we have seen an increase in demand for bedrooms for those looking to be as near to the Sam Fender concert as possible as guests seek convenience and a fabulous customer experience on an exciting night for Newcastle.”

Other hotels in the area are no different, as many hotels take on a 'demand based pricing system'. A double room, per night, at the Maldron Hotel would cost £395 for those dates, compared to its £105 rate for this coming Friday night. Booking.com is also reporting 91% of hotels in the area are fully booked for those dates.

Hotel rooms for the night are already selling quickly too, with affordable chains like Premier Inn and Jury's Inn Newcastle having already sold out on rooms for that weekend.
