Newcastle hand Chelsea way out of Jorginho transfer dilemma as Boehly funds Enzo Fernandez bid

Chelsea could recoup some money to spend on additional transfers in January ahead of a busy window. With the expectation that the winter window will be full of incomings at Stamford Bridge, every outgoing only adds to the war chest available to Graham Potter.

With injuries across the team and holes popping up consistently in a poorly stitched together squad, there is a demand for a new midfielder, right-back and possible attacker to join next month. A striker or extra attacker may also be required as back-up for Armando Broja after his injury, whilst planning ahead for a defensive rejig is also required.

Todd Boehly appears just as active as ever to set about making the changes required and has committed himself to securing transfers across the pitch. Just as important as the incomings in 2023 could be those departing though, with contract decisions still to be made.

Jorginho and N'Golo Kante are out of contract in the summer whilst Thiago Silva will also have a choice as to whether he extends his deal by another year. Cesar Azpilicueta will be entering the final 12 months of his deal, too.

With the potential of three first team players leaving without compensation that only adds to the financial burden placed upon the new owners. After spending a record £250m in the summer, further investment will be needed to fund the big moves being pursued next year.

A way to take advantage of this situation has surfaced though, with the Daily Mail reporting that Newcastle want to make Jorginho their big name January signing. The Italian hasn't made a breakthrough with his deal at SW6 yet and can negotiate a pre-contract next month.

Eddie Howe's men, who sit second in the league, are looking for reinforcements to ensure their top four bid doesn't drop off though and want to add experience to their side. Due to his contract, the 31-year-old could be available for a cut-price over the winter but if that fails there is still the pre-contract to fall back on for Newcastle.

Chelsea can use this to help fund their bid to sign Benfica youngster Enzo Fernandez. The Argentine World Cup winner is more likely to move in January than Declan Rice or Jude Bellingham - who make up the top two names on the shortlist in midfield - and has reportedly been told of official interest by Chelsea.
