Newcastle ghost walks offer a thrill 'like no other attraction' in the city

Tales of serial killers, witches and even a Black Monk will feature during a new series of spooky ghost walks now under way in the city.

The Til Death Do Us Part tour says it will 'delve into the blood-curdling parts of Newcastle’s twisted haunted history' and, being for adults-only, it promises to uncover some gruesome stuff about the likes of murderers and shady characters said to still haunt the city streets and old lanes. It's hosted by the Newcastle Ghost Walk company which was set up by Steven Taylor, who also created Haunted City Tours, and has been running since 2007.

Tickets are on sale now for the new season of walks which take place on the last Sunday of every month until November. The walks - which the company says will offer visitors 'a thrill like no other attraction in Newcastle' - will start and finish outside the historic, and atmospheric, Castle Keep which has creepy tales of its own to add to the mix.

Those brave enough to go along will join a paranormal investigator for a journey back in time which will include an exploration of tales of within the ancient walls of the Keep prison and the Black Monk said to haunt it. The walk through history will also take in the site of one of the city's infamous 1649 witch trials and a murder location of Victorian serial killer Daniel Feany.

During the tour, the ghost-hunting guide will try contacting the spirit of a young girl said to haunt the castle where she was murdered. And the group can also expect spine-tingling tales of the Black Gate poltergeist and the execution pit where some previous ghost walkers apparently have had unexplainable experiences ranging from being pushed, grabbed and scratched to seeing phantom 'shadow people' or items thrown by invisible hands and even hearing growls.

The walking tours will last around 90-minutes to two hours 'depending on paranormal activity' says the company and it tells its walkers 'keep your cameras at the ready', presumably in the hope of catching activity on camera. If their hands aren't shaking that is.

The Til Death Do Us Part walk costs £9.99. To book for an upcoming date see here and for more about other walks and what the company offers see here.
