Newcastle United will still be able register a new senior player in the final days of the window if required - even after the Magpies complete the signing of Anthony Gordon.
Newcastle have agreed a deal worth £40m plus add-ons for the Everton forward, who will travel up to Tyneside to complete a medical over the weekend, following a breakthrough in talks on Friday. Gordon is cup tied, so won't be available for Newcastle's Carabao Cup semi-final second-leg against Southampton on Tuesday night, but the 21-year-old is expected to be in attendance at St James' Park if everything goes to plan.
An additional bonus with this deal is that Gordon was born after January 1, 2001. According to the Premier League rulebook, a player under the age of 21 on New Year's Day in the year in which the season started is classed as an under-21 player. Gordon, as a result, will not take up a place in Newcastle's 25-man squad because he was born on February 24, 2001.

Newcastle let the experienced Chris Wood go to Nottingham Forest last week so the Magpies will still have room to bring in another senior player if required. However, given the outlay involved in the Gordon deal, perhaps, it would be a surprise if Newcastle do any further major business before Tuesday night's deadline.
It does at least give Newcastle room to manoeuvre, though, if the right opportunity comes along in the final days of the window. Newcastle still look a little light in the middle of the park while Eddie Howe is keen to bring in a young right-back to learn from Kieran Trippier at some point in 2023.
