Newcastle fans question Eddie Howe’s key choice in line-up to face Leeds United

Newcastle fans have gathered on social media to question why skipper Jamaal Lascelles has kept his place for today’s clash against Leeds.

The defender was criticised after last weekend’s 1-1 draw with Watford as his failure to challenge Joao Pedro for an 87th-minute header proved costly.

Watford's dramatic late equaliser denied the Magpies a crucial home victory and the chance to climb out of the relegation zone.

Howe has made just one change from the game with the Hornets as Joe Willock replaces Sean Longstaff, who drops to the bench.

Lascelles’ inclusion was the overwhelming theme as soon as the line-up was announced on Twitter.

@JSpence24: Lascelles again…

@LiamDowson_55: HOW IS LASCELLES STILL GETTING IN THIS TEAM, WHAT IS HOWE SEEING IN HIM THAT IS GOOD????

@Allan_SaintMax: Why lascelles man

@SellersTony: Joke how Lascelles is still in the team and no new signings in since last game. Its embarrassing, I can't see us winning this game either. Running out of games and new players would need a few games to bed in. Bruce Jr sits back when we are in front and has given points away.

However, some fans were slightly more optimistic and were happy to see Willock recalled to the side.

@Ginger_Pirlo: Willock to score.

@jamesspikas: So much negativity, are we back to the old days, just get behind the team and push for a result and stop putting every player down, they can’t improve if their own fans won’t support them.

@callum592: Hopefully this is the turn around for Willock. He could do with a mentor

@DL5872: Think Willock and J7 could be a good partnership ton of energy
