Newcastle fans deliver unanimous verdict on whether to sign Jesse Lingard or Dele Alli

An overwhelming 82% of Newcastle supporters would prefer a move for Jesse Lingard over England teammate Dele Alli.

The Magpies are linked with both players as the club desperately tries to bolster their ranks before the window slams shut on January 31.

Newcastle are upping the stakes this week in their pursuit of Lingard, with the player eyeing a loan move away from Old Trafford.

Ralf Rangnick said last week that he did not know where the 29-year-old will be playing come February 1 ahead of their 1-0 victory against West Ham.

The same report names Spurs outcast Alli as the man Newcastle would turn to if their attempt to sign Lingard falls through.

New boss Antonio Conte has not played Alli in any of Tottenham’s last four fixtures and, with the World Cup at the end of 2022, a move is surely needed if he is to force his way back into Gareth Southgate’s plans.

Alli’s future in North London looks bleak - and Newcastle could capitalise.

However, over 1,500 Toon fans have cast their vote on Twitter and believe Lingard would be a better fit than his compatriot.

Some supporters were quick to defend Alli and think he would be a better long-term option.

@Gavlarr1985: Personally I’m more an Alli fan, he’s got the talent just feel he needs to feel loved, like Pochettino did. Jesse had one hell of an impact last season and when he played this year so he seems more of a sound option, but I’d still take Alli. Jesse doesn’t seem interested in us.

@DanielNUFC85: Lingard only because I think he could make a big impact till the end of the season. If we are talking more long term Dele Alli.

@ToonHarp: I put Lingard if he can replicate that immediate form a la West Ham. Though longer term I'd love to get Alli in and back to his best. Both would be great signings
