Newcastle evening headlines with Ronaldo transfer truth, 'disrespectful' Klopp, Santon exclusive

Here are your latest Newcastle United headlines for October 25.

Ronaldo rumour

Newcastle United have not been offered the chance to sign Manchester United wantaway Cristiano Ronaldo, despite reports suggesting otherwise on Tuesday morning. Chronicle Live understands talk in the national media of the Magpies being given the opportunity to sign the 37-year-old in January are wide of the mark.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Eddie Howe 's side have been touted as a potential destination for Ronaldo as he seeks an urgent Old Trafford exit. However, one source close to the Red Devils says the Portuguese forward is only interested in leaving Manchester United for a club playing in the Champions League, something his representatives and super agent Jorge Mendes are well aware of.

Ronaldo's next destination looks likely to be Napoli, who currently top their group in Europe's premier competition and sit three points clear of their nearest rivals in Serie A. The attacker featured against Newcastle earlier this month but has since fallen further out of favour with boss Erik Ten Hag.

'Disrespectful' Klopp

Jurgen Klopp has been 'really disrespectful' with his comments about Newcastle United and should focus on his own team because he has got a 'lot of problems' at Liverpool.

That is the view of former Spurs manager Tim Sherwood after Klopp sarcastically congratulated Newcastle sporting director Dan Ashworth following his declaration that the club had no ceiling earlier this month. The German said there were 'three clubs in world football who can do what they want financially' when 'other clubs have ceilings'.

Ashworth, of course, was referring to Newcastle's ambitions rather than the amount of money the club can spend. However, Klopp did not interpret it like that even though Ashworth admitted that continuing to spend £200m a year on players was 'unsustainable'.

Although Eddie Howe does not tend to get drawn into these sorts of exchanges, even the Newcastle head coach warned Klopp to be 'careful' after he felt the need to 'stand up' for the club. Sherwood, who worked alongside Howe as a fellow pundit for Premier League Productions during the 44-year-old's time out of the game, thought Klopp's dig was 'rich'. Sherwood even went as far as to say the Liverpool boss should 'get on with his own team because he's got a lot of problems there'.

Santon exclusive

Davide Santon wakes up in agony every morning. The pain is so bad that the former Newcastle United defender spends the first quarter of an hour of each day doing a series of stretches and exercises just so he is 'able to walk properly'.

As much as Santon wants to run still, some days, the Italian has to listen to his body and put his trainers away. Is it any wonder Santon decided to retire at the age of just 31 last month?

"I gave all my body to football," he told ChronicleLive.

That is an understatement. Santon suffered his first knee injury at 18 and went on to have three operations during the course of his career. Although Santon has hung up his boots, a fourth surgery may be on the cards later in life to insert a metal plate in his knee.

This was not what Santon pictured when he burst onto the scene under Jose Mourinho at Inter all those years ago. Yet, in those final months of his career at Roma, under the same manager, the same thought would enter Santon's head: 'Do I really have to go to training today?'

Howe's Almiron message

Eddie Howe has told man of the moment Miguel Almiron to simply keep on "enjoying" his football with Newcastle United.

The playmaker is having a wonderful start to the 2022/23 campaign and has already trebled his goal account from last season after reaching six strikes. Miggy is now just two goals shy of his best ever tally in a season for Newcastle (8) but Howe is not setting any targets for the exciting South American star.
