Newcastle evening headlines with Garang Kuol transfer update and Mykhaylo Mudryk latest

Newcastle United will have to navigate potential work-permit issues to complete a deal for A-League wonderkid Garang Kuol. Elsewhere, Mykhaylo Mudryk has outlined his Premier League ambition amid interest from the Magpies.

Here are your latest Newcastle United headlines for September 27.

Kuol update

Newcastle United hope to complete a deal for Central Coast Mariners wonderkid Garang Kuol - but the Magpies may have to be creative to overcome potential work permit issues.

Signing players from overseas is more complicated for English clubs post- Brexit because new arrivals have to secure a certain number of governing body endorsement (GBE) points to obtain a work permit. The rules are now so strict that even Justin Kluivert was refused a work permit when Fulham attempted to sign the former Netherlands international from Roma earlier this summer because he had not played enough recent games for the Serie A giants.

A range of factors are assessed in this points-based system, including the quality of the league the new signing is coming from, how many caps they have and the domestic minutes they have played. With that in mind, in theory, Kuol would face a battle as it stands to pick up the 15 points required for an automatic GBE when the youngster has yet to start a competitive game for club or country and has only played 145 minutes in a league that is not even listed in the top five bands.

Mudryk latest

Mykhaylo Mudryk has revealed that he wants to one day play in the Premier League as Newcastle United keep an eye on the Shakhtar Donetsk star.

Although Darijo Srna is biased, Shakhtar's director of football recently went as far as to say that PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe and Real Madrid prodigy Vinicius Junior were the only forwards who are better than Mudryk right now. As far as Srna is concerned, it will take 'a lot of money' to tempt Shakhtar to sell the 'serious talent', who still has more than four years left to run on his contract.

Shakhtar actually turned down a €30m offer from Everton last summer and that was before Mudryk lit up this season's Champions League with sparkling displays against RB Leipzig and Celtic. You can see why Mudryk has beeped onto Newcastle's radar and, scarily, in an interview with the Times, the Ukraine international said he was only at 'maximum 20 per cent of my potential'.

Bruno's request

Bruno Guimaraes wanted to stay with Brazil for the second of their international break clashes this week but Newcastle asked for him to return to Tyneside, according to national team manager Tite. Guimaraes picked up a thigh injury in training last week and is now back in the north east as he aims to recover for Saturday's trip to Fulham.

Guimaraes missed Brazil's 3-0 win over Ghana on Friday but hoped to be fit enough to face Tunisia on Tuesday evening. However, Newcastle were taking no chances with their star midfielder and asked Brazil to grant him an early return to England.

Troisi interview

James Troisi scored the winning goal that secured Australia's first major piece of silverware. The 36-year-old represented his country at the World Cup and the Olympics, and was even on the books of Juventus at one point. Yet Troisi never forgot the four-and-a-half years he spent as a youngster at Newcastle United.

Troisi may not have played a competitive game for the Magpies, but the Aussie admitted it was 'every boy's dream to say they were involved with a club like that' between 2004 and 2008. Troisi was not just involved, of course; the attacking midfielder rubbed shoulders with senior pros like Shay Given, Nicky Butt and Michael Owen, who gave him a special nickname.

"They used to call me Messi," Troisi told ChronicleLive. "I was far, far from it but that was something special for me because you've got all those players calling you it."

Maldini's Botman comments

Paolo Maldini recently confirmed the news we had all known for some time: AC Milan failed to lure Sven Botman to the San Siro before his Newcastle United switch.

The Italian giants laid on a very public charm offensive as they tried to land the Dutch prospect at the beginning of the summer. However, takeover issues in Milan eventually saw the Serie A side fail to land Botman as Newcastle swooped in back in June.

"We tried to take Botman before Charles [De Ketelaere], who would have exhausted what was our budget and we would have turned to other players for that role there," Maldini said over the weekend. "Our ideas in May compared to what happened in the end, there is hardly a common thread.

Pope's gain

England looked on the cusp of a remarkable Wembley comeback on Monday evening as Harry Kane thumped his 83rd-minute penalty home to make it 3-2. However, Newcastle United goalkeeper Nick Pope's mistake proved costly just moments later as Germany were gifted an agonising late equaliser.

Picked over Arsenal 's Aaron Ramsdale for the second of England's two Nations League clashes, Pope had the chance to firmly enter the conversation as to potentially taking the No 1 spot from Everton's Jordan Pickford. However, the fallout from the 3-3 draw has hurt the former Burnley man's chances.

Much has been made of the late error and Pope's overall match rating but England boss Gareth Southgate was quick out of the blocks to defend his shot-stopper. “It is an error, and of course he’s going to be down,” he said. “But the team has to be together and we have done that all week.
