Here are your Newcastle United headlines for September 28.
Kuol transfer close
Newcastle United have fended off significant interest in Garang Kuol as the youngster edges closer to joining the Magpies. The 18-year-old has flourished at Central Coast Mariners in Australia, with terms now agreed between the A League outfit and Eddie Howe's side.
Kuol is yet to agree personal terms but will be in England in the coming days to finalise the deal and complete a medical. The teenage sensation will be loaned out upon his January arrival due to work permit issues.
The attacker has caught the eye in recent months after his dazzling club form earned him a surprise Australia call-up. Coming off the bench on Sunday, Kuol became the youngster debutant for the national side since Harry Kewell 25 years ago.

Leicester's Maddison stance
Leicester City will do all they can to keep James Maddison if Newcastle United return with another offer in 2023.
Maddison is approaching the final 18 months of his contract with the bottom-of-the-table Foxes and there has been no breakthrough as of yet on a new deal. However, despite recently announcing huge financial losses, Leicester would loathe to lose another key player after selling defender Wesley Fofana to Chelsea.
A senior source at Leicester previously stressed to ChronicleLive that the 'manager [Brendan Rodgers] made our position clear - he's not for sale' after Newcastle had two bids turned down for the 25-year-old. Given the form Maddison is in, though, and Leicester's predicament, you just wonder whether Newcastle may test that stance once again in January or, indeed, next summer.

Wilson update
Callum Wilson has declared himself fit to play when Newcastle United face Fulham on Saturday but Aleksandar Mitrovic may be nursing a slight knock as he reunites with his former club. Wilson wasn't included in Gareth Southgate's latest England squad after spending recent weeks on the sidelines but now claims to be ready for an eagerly-anticipated first-team return in the capital this weekend.
“We have Fulham on Saturday, which is away – looking forward to that one,” Wilson told The Footballer’s Football Podcast. “I’ve worked hard to get to a point where I’m available for selection. I’ll be working hard this week in training, and then we’ll see where we are at.”

Longstaff on future
Sean Longstaff insists the 'end goal' for Newcastle United's new owners has to be competing in the Champions League within the next decade. The academy graduate was asked about the Magpies's long-term ambitions almost a year on from the takeover which has transformed the club's expectations.
Eddie Howe led Newcastle to Premier League survival, and has been backed by more than £200 million in this year's transfer windows. The deal for Alexander Isak shattered the club's record, while stars such as Bruno Guimaraes and Kieran Trippier have made sensational starts to life at St James' Park.
Newcastle's form in the second-half of last season along with this sizeable investment has led many to question how far Howe's side can go this campaign. Longstaff is adamant the club's rebuild will not happen 'overnight', but is confident the owners' ambitions will see the club return to Europe's elite competition in the coming years.

Burn's England admission
Newcastle defender Dan Burn admits his time may be running out when it comes to lining up for England before he hangs up his boots in the years to come. The 30-year-old has been consistently overlooked by Gareth Southgate in recent years despite impressing both at Brighton and on Tyneside.
The England boss isn't known to take too many risks and doesn't make changes at the best of times - never mind two months before a World Cup. Burn appreciates the talent pool for Southgate to choose from is brimming with top players and appears to have come to terms with potentially never pulling on a strip for the Three Lions.

Southgate on Trippier
England boss Gareth Southgate has indicated that Newcastle United full-back Kieran Trippier is ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold in the pecking order. The Liverpool defender was left out of the squad entirely for England’s 3-3 draw against Germany on Monday, after serving as an unused substitute in Friday’s defeat in Italy.
His omission from the England set-up has been a major topic of discussion during Southgate’s six-year reign. While he has posted 235 appearances for Liverpool, winning the Premier League and UEFA Champions League in the process, the 23-year-old has been capped just 17 times for the Three Lions.
Alexander-Arnold was ruled out of Euro 2020 due to injury but has featured in just four of England’s last 15 internationals since. If this isn't enough to suggest that Alexander-Arnold has been banished to the shadows by Southgate then the national manager’s post-match comments offered a clearer picture of the situation.
