Trippier's role
Kieran Trippier had just fractured a bone in his foot, but the England international only had one thought in his mind: how he could help his Newcastle United team-mates from the sidelines.
"We've had a conversation about that," Eddie Howe told reporters last week. "That was the first thing we discussed and that's the type of person that he is.
"He wants to make a difference and he wants to help, and he wants to lead. He'll have a big impact even if he's not playing."
Trippier has already helped to raise standards further at the club with the way he trains and leads, and that will continue even from the treatment room.
Shelvey interview
Jonjo Shelvey has revealed that Eddie Howe has brought a 'real togetherness' to Newcastle United as the Magpies' midfielder urged his team-mates to 'keep listening' to the head coach.
Newcastle were five points from safety when Howe was appointed last November, but the black-and-whites have since pulled clear of danger.
Although there is still a lot of work to do to stay up, Newcastle are currently four points clear of the relegation zone and Howe's side could even leapfrog Brentford into 14th place with a win against the out of form Bees on Saturday.
Newcastle have not lost a Premier League game since December and Shelvey has been asked what Howe has changed to bring about an upturn in results.
Shearer's picks
Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has included Magpies duo Matt Targett and Joe Willock in his latest Premier League Team of the Week.
Eddie Howe's side picked up a point on the road against West Ham United, maintaining a four-point gap between themselves and 18th-placed Watford in the table.
Targett has slotted in seamlessly at left-back for Eddie Howe's side and excelled both defensively and offensively at the London Stadium, meanwhile Willock reminded supporters of his ability with a fantastic display in midfield.
He also notched the equaliser on the stroke of half-time with an intelligent finish, opening his account for the season in the process.
Almiron's message
Since Howe was announced as Bruce's successor, Miguel Almiron has made just three league starts for the Magpies.
His introduction as a substitute in the draw with West Ham United marked his first Premier League outing in over a month having been kept on the bench for wins over Leeds United, Everton and Aston Villa.
However, a message shared on his Instagram story suggests the Paraguay international is working hard to force his way into Howe's starting XI.
Moyes' programme notes
David Moyes has paid tribute to the 'experienced' Eddie Howe as the Newcastle United head coach starts to really make his mark in 'one of the biggest jobs in English football'.
Moyes has certainly taken note of what a different proposition Newcastle now are under Howe after the West Ham manager previously triumphed in the reverse fixture back in August.
Ferdinand's prediction
Rio Ferdinand believes Newcastle have too much in their squad to go down after their recent result at West Ham United.
The former Manchester United defender watched on and was particularly impressed with the performance of Joe Willock as the Magpies made it six games without defeat.
Eddie Howe's side have won three of their last four and have given themselves a serious lifeline in the fight against relegation.
Newcastle know a win against Brentford this weekend would see them move above their opponents and further away from the bottom three.
Ferdinand paid tribute to the new found character and work ethic in the Magpies squad, and believes they'll have enough come the end of the season to ensure Premier League survival.
Richards' view
Micah Richards does not think Newcastle United supporters will be the most worried about relegation of the teams currently just outside the bottom three.
The three teams directly above Newcastle at the moment – Everton, Leeds United and Brentford – are all struggling for form at present.
When asked which supporters he thinks will be the most nervous at the moment, Richards pointed to those three teams, as opposed to Newcastle.
Neville's claim
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville believes Leeds United and Brentford are the teams most at risk of being dragged into the relegation places.
The two sides are both currently enduring poor runs of form and saw their points gap to the bottom three reduce at the weekend.
Burnley and Watford both picked up impressive away wins at the weekend, while Newcastle United continued their good form with a solid 1-1 draw at West Ham.
Prior to the weekend, Neville claimed that he was pretty certain that the sides currently occupying the bottom three would be relegated.
Cresswell's disappointment
Aaron Creswell claims West Ham United didn't do enough in the second-half to counteract Newcastle's game plan.
The Hammers full-back claims the Magpies dropped deeper and allowed the hosts to have more of the ball, but David Moyes side were unable to break down the visitors.
For Newcastle, it extends their unbeaten run to six games but West Ham are slowly watching Champions League football slip through their fingers.
Wilder's defence
Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder has defended Steve Bruce’s time at Newcastle United.
Bruce will bring his current side, West Brom, to the North East tonight to face Boro as he looks to secure his first win since taking over the Midlands side earlier this month.

It was Bruce’s first job since leaving Newcastle back in October 2021 following the Saudi-led takeover of the club.
At that time, Newcastle were winless in the Premier League and second bottom in the table.
Bruce in the eyes of many should have been relieved of his duties months earlier after a horrible run that saw him win just two in 23 games but Wilder has defended his time in charge.
