Staveley's Living Wage 'vision'
Newcastle United have confirmed that they have made an application to the Living Wage Foundation to become a Living Wage Employer.
This is a scheme which should help to support others in the city and create a link between the club and its supporters, further illustrating the impact the new owners have had since joining the Magpies.
The news has certainly gone down well amongst the Magpies faithful and it's a statement of intent from Amanda Staveley, who are beginning to change the landscape on and off the pitch.
Longstaff interview
Newcastle prospect Matty Longstaff says Aberdeen's long-ball approach didn't suit him, but is now relishing the opportunity to get his season back on track at Mansfield.
The 21-year-old travelled north of the border at the start of the campaign but made just five appearances for the Dons before being recalled by Eddie Howe in December.
Deadline day saw the younger Longstaff brother secure another loan move to League Two outfit Mansfield as he looks to reignite a career that showed plenty of promise two years ago.
Longstaff - who has featured twice for England’s U20 squad - is hoping for a better experience this time around.
Howe told 'no excuses'
Eddie Howe has 'no excuses' if Newcastle United fail to avoid relegation following a January transfer spending spree in excess of £90m.
That is the view of pundit Frank McAvennie, who believes survival should be a 'formality' for the Magpies after making five signings in the window.
Dan Burn and Matt Targett both agreed deals on deadline day, and joined Bruno Guimaraes, Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood at St James' Park.
The spend which could rise above £90m has given renewed hopes to Newcastle's survival prospects, with Howe's side currently one point adrift of safety having won just twice all season.
United face home fixtures against Everton and Aston Villa next, with away trips to the capital against West Ham and Brentford to follow.
Relegation rivals Burnley and Watford both hold games in hand on Newcastle, while Norwich have moved out of the relegation zone with successive wins.
However, former Celtic and West Ham striker McAvennie has praised the Magpies' mid-season transfer business, and believes Howe now has enough at his disposal to steer the club to safety.
Shelvey's transfer admission
Jonjo Shelvey has admitted that Newcastle United players needed the 'uncertainty' that the club's new signings have brought as the old guard fight for their futures.
Newcastle's owners spent more than £90m on Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes, Dan Burn and loan signing Matt Targett in their first window in charge.
Eddie Howe had to create space to accommodate the quintet and, following Jeff Hendrick and Freddie Woodman's deadline day loan exits, Jamal Lewis, Ciaran Clark and the injured Isaac Hayden were left out of the Magpies' 25-man squad for the second half of the season.
Former Newcastle boss Steve McClaren likened such an overhaul to 'throwing a bomb' in the dressing room because it is a 'cattle prod' for the club's established players.
Shelvey certainly sees it that way after Joe Willock was previously Newcastle's only signing in 2021 as a whole.
Relegation rivals view
The focus now for Eddie Howe and Newcastle United is solely on survival following a hectic January transfer window.
The Magpies remain a point adrift of safety, and could find themselves bottom of the Premier League if Burnley capitalise on their two games in hand.
However, the mood on Tyneside has been improved by the arrival of five signings in an uncharacterstically busy window at St James' Park.
Dan Burn, Bruno Guimaraes, Matt Targett, Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood are expected to become fixtures in the starting lineup in the coming months.
Newcastle fans are pleased with the business conducted by the new owners, but how is their recruitment viewed by their rivals?
February is expected to be a crucial month at the bottom of the table, and ChronicleLive spoke with reporters covering Burnley, Norwich City and Watford for the inside view on the relegation battle.
Fowler's praise
Former England forward Robbie Fowler has hailed Newcastle United's recent transfer business, declaring the Magpies 'winners' in the January window.
Head coach Eddie Howe has been backed financially and has welcomed five new additions to his squad, including Brazil international Bruno Guimarães.
Experienced full-back Kieran Trippier has also arrived on Tyneside, as have imposing forward Chris Wood and towering defender Dan Burn.
They also dipped into the loan market to recruit left-back Matt Targett from Premier League rivals Aston Villa.
DCL update
Everton boss Frank Lampard remains hopeful of having Dominic Calvert-Lewin fit for the crunch Premier League game with Newcastle United after the striker returned to individual training.
The England international missed Lampard's first game in charge as the Toffees ran out 4-1 winners over Brentford, with Yerry Mina, Richarlison, Mason Holgate and Andros Townsend all finding the net.
It was the perfect start for Lampard, who was appointed as the new Everton boss earlier in the week following Rafael Benitez's departure last month.
However, he was without Calvert-Lewin after the latter trained alone at Finch Farm on Friday as he recovers from a fresh injury setback he picked up during the winter break.
