Newcastle United have been criticised by an unnamed source, claiming to be close to Diego Carlos.
The source told The Daily Star the Magpies made a 'derisory offer' for the Brazilian centre-back and said the Magpies should not be 'washing their dirty linen in public.'
The comments come after a public pursuit of the Sevilla defender during the January transfer window, where Newcastle made a number of bids to sign the defender, but a move to St. James' Park did not transpire.

Sevilla reportedly rejected bids in the region of £30million, but the source close to Carlos told the Star that was not the case.
“That’s a crock of s*** because they never gave a price,” a source said.
"They referred Newcastle to the buyout clause (£58.4million). The media reporting was Newcastle-driven. Same as with Unai Emery when he turned them down before an important Champions League game.
"You can’t be considered a big club by washing your dirty linen in public and getting the player to do the dirty work doesn’t work with them.
"Just because allegedly there is loads of cash doesn’t mean everyone will walk to Newcastle and sign."
Nonetheless, the deal is not completely dead in the water and the Magpies could return with an improved offer in the summer.
“The move could happen if they deal properly with Sevilla and offer proper money, not make a derisory offer as they did and try to bully Sevilla to sell.
"Maybe with Dan Ashworth at the helm things will be done more professionally.”
