Newcastle confident over Marc Guehi deal as Crystal Palace plot Trevoh Chalobah move

Newcastle are increasingly confident of sealing a deal to sign Marc Guehi, after tabling an improved bid for the Crystal Palace defender that could reach £60million.

Newcastle have offered an initial £55m for the England international, plus a further £5m in add-ons.

Palace are understood to value Guehi at £70m and do not want to lose him, but Newcastle believe they can convince the Eagles into an agreement.

Should he leave, Palace are set to move for Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah to replace him. Chalobah has been told he can leave Chelsea, who are looking to cash in on their academy graduate.

The 25-year-old has proved ultra-reliable and a model professional at Chelsea, but despite impressing on a regular basis he has been unable to convince Blues chiefs that he should command a central long-term role at Stamford Bridge.

A string of Premier League clubs have tracked Chalobah closely this summer, with Aston Villa understood to have been keen on his services. Palace would need to spend £25m to secure a deal for Chalobah.

Fulham had been eyeing Chalobah as a possible replacement for Tosin Adarabioyo, who left for Chelsea on a free transfer at the start of the window.

They were rebuffed however, with Chalobah keen on a move to a club in European action this coming season.

Palace may find themselves in a similar position to Fulham, but could look to reinvest a section of any sizeable Guehi sum to tempt Chalobah through personal terms.

Chalobah signed a long-term contract with Chelsea in November 2022 that leaves him under contract at Stamford Bridge until 2028.
