Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi has hailed Newcastle United's warrior spirit after coming from behind at Nottingham Forest. The Magpies ended the hosts' nine game unbeaten run at the City Ground to close the gap to the top-four.
Eddie Howe's side can move back into the top-four and as high as third with a win over Manchester United when the two sides meet following the international break. The Toon still have a game in hand over Tottenham Hotspur and are due to play Antonio Conte's side at St. James' Park next month.
Back-to-back wins has reignited Newcastle's top four push but it was far from plain sailing in the win over Forest. Emmanuel Dennis - who was once linked with a move to Tyneside - gave the Tricky Trees the lead against the run of play, following on from a rare mistake from Sven Botman.
Nottingham Forest 1-2 Newcastle United highlights and reaction
The Nigerian international chipped the ball between Nick Pope, Botman and then over the head of Kieran Trippier at the back post to open the scoring. Alexander Isak levelled proceedings on the brink of half-time with a brilliant volley to bring an end to a gritty first-half.
Elliot Anderson thought he'd given the Magpies the lead midway through the second-half, but his first Premier League goal of the season was ruled out by VAR in controversial circumstances. Forest were buoyed by the decision going their way, but it was Isak who notched the winner in stoppage time from the spot.
At full-time Ghodoussi took to social media to praise the character of Howe's side following the win. He tweeted: "Warriors, absolute f****** warriors!!! So proud of this team."
