Newcastle United got back to winning ways with a victory over Wolves at St James’ Park on Friday night. The win was welcomed after a run of three successive defeats.
The only goal of the game came from Chris Wood - the striker firing home from the spot after being brought down by goalkeeper José Sá. The three points takes United’s points tally up to 34, and a step closer to safety.
On the Match Review episode of The Everything is Black and White Podcast, Newcastle United Editor Aaron Stokes joins host Andrew Musgrove to look back on the game. Speaking about Wood’s penalty, Stokes said: “I actually wrote down in my notes that it was Shearer esque. The build-up was fantastic.

“ Wood made that penalty himself - it was very clever. He saw Sa racing out and knew that if he just got the touch past him, then it was a stonewall penalty.
“Great to see him on the scores sheet and shouldering that responsibility, that he wants the penalties. Long may it last."
Adding a take on the result, Stokes added: “It was a huge result - coming off the back of three defeats.
“It was a game in which they really needed to send a statement out. It’s not a game that will live long in the memory but the main thing was just to get three points and keep a clean sheet as well.”
