Newcastle have been canny in the transfer market and instead of just throwing money around have carefully targeted the players they want.
Eddie Howe has strengthened his defence by signing Matt Targett permanently and landing Sven Botman and Nick Pope. Goalkeeper Pope could be one of the bargains on the window at £10million and Newcastle have been careful with their cash, despite their owners from Saudi Arabia having very deep pockets.

D-Day for Pulisic
Caught Offside carry a column of transfer stories from Fabrizio Romano in which the Italian claims Newcastle will soon find out if their bid for Christian Pulisic will be successful. Pulisic can leave Chelsea on loan and Newcastle are keen to bring him to St James' Park.
Romano has ruled out a move to Manchester United and says the Toon will soon find out if they have won the race to sign the USA international. "Manchester United’s only request for information for Pulisic was a week ago, but Chelsea would not want to accept a loan deal with an important club like Man Utd," said Romano. “Newcastle have also wanted him on loan for months, certainly a decision will be made soon."

Fresh bid for Pedro
The Northern Echo report that Newcastle are set to make a fresh bid for Watford striker Joao Pedro. Newcastle failed with an offer last week and Howe remains keen on Pedro. The Toon are tipped to make a second bid in the next 24 hours worth a reported £25million plus £5million in add-ons and Howe hopes they can make some progress in the transfer market.
"I hope so," Howe said. "But as we sit here at this moment, I’ve got no guarantee of that so I can’t give you any certainty. But we hope to add to the squad."
Leeds bid rejected
The Athletic claim Newcastle have had a second bid for Jack Harrison rejected. The offer was reportedly worth more than the original £20million bid, but was not enough to tempt Leeds to enter talks. Leeds do not want to sell Harrison, especially at this late stage in the window, and believe he wants to stay at Elland Road. Newcastle must decide if they will try a third time to prise the winger, who has made a flying start to the season, scoring once and making three assists, away from Leeds or move on to another target.
