Arsenal fans have been left furious with reports suggesting that Newcastle United have had a bid accepted for Gunners’ target Bruno Guimaraes.
The north Londoners have been linked with a move for the Brazilian for some time, links that go way back to the midfielder’s days back in his home country.
It appears that the Gunners are yet to make an effort to bring him to the Emirates Stadium but it was suggested that the club could try due to their dire need for midfield reinforcements.
Arsenal have certainly struggled in the centre of the park throughout the current campaign with a combination of injuries, international call-ups and suspensions all costing them dear.
A midfield arrival in the January transfer would certainly have alleviated that strain but the man to fill that vacancy looks unlikely to be Guimaraes.
According to reports in France, Premier League rivals Newcastle United had lodged a €40million (£33million) offer for the 24-year-old, with it then being suggested further in Brazil that the newly-rich Magpies had seen their bid actually accepted by Lyon.
Whether that leads to him completing a move to St James’ Park remains to be seen but Arsenal fans have been left furious with the latest developments, especially with the Gunners having been linked with Guimaraes for so long.
Here are the best of their thoughts from social media.
Guimaraes, a three-time Brazilian international, has been with Lyon since a 2020 switch from Athletico Paranense.
Following a slow start to life in Ligue 1, he established himself as a key player at the Groupama Arena, going on to make 71 appearances for the club.
The potential blow of losing his services will of course be a huge blow to Arsenal, having also lost out on the signing of Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic to Juventus.
