Over four million British holidaymakers are set to take to the skies and fly overseas to enjoy a holiday this summer. Most UK airports have seen more than an eight-fold increase in passenger numbers passing through their terminals when compared with last year, as air-travel enters a post-pandemic age.
The sudden take-off in flight demand has seen airlines open new routes and increase the frequency of flights to certain destinations to keep up. Newcastle International has welcomed Ryanair opening a new base at the north east's largest airport, with the company operating over 130 weekly flights for Summer 2022.
This gives Newcastle's holidaymakers "an abundance of choice to top European destinations in Italy, Spain and England whilst also giving UK tourism a much-needed boost after two lost Summers," according to the airline.
