Newcastle 'actively looking' for new arrivals as Eddie Howe quizzed over transfer plans

Eddie Howe was whisked away from his post-game press conference to catch up on transfer activity missed during the 1-0 win over Southampton.

On a day in which the club operated under an understandable veil of silence in their attempt to sign Anthony Gordon, Howe could offer little more to proceedings after the game.

But it is understood that Gordon is a player Howe is keen to work with if Newcastle can do a deal. He said: “Honestly, I’ve got no idea (whether there have been developments over the Gordon deal). I’ve been preparing for the game, so I’ve got no idea. But I wouldn’t comment on individual players anyway.

“I’ve got no idea if we’ve got any closer to anything, but we’re actively looking, I have said that. But as of tonight, I have no update.”
