Newcastle United beat Crystal Palace 1-0 thanks to a stunning first goal of the season from Miguel Almiron.
It was Newcastle who started the better with Allan Saint-Maximin, Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes and Almiron all starting brightly.
And it was the latter who opened the scoring with a stunning solo goal. Guimaraes half volleyed a ball in behind the defence and Almiron held off Tyrick Mitchell before curling the ball into the far corner to hand the Magpies a half-time lead.
Crystal Palace came close to levelling in the second half as Wilfried Zaha whistled an effort past the post. The visitors pushed for an equaliser but it was to no avail as the Magpies held firm for a sixth successive home win.

Martin Dubravka 8
Only faced two shots on target and was a spectator for long periods. Stayed focused and picked up clean sheet.
Emil Krafth 8
Another excellent display from the Swedish star. Making life tough for Howe when Trippier returns. Zaha was left frustrated.
Dan Burn 9
Thumped and cleared balls all night. What a signing. Nine clearances in total.
Fabian Schar 8
Breezed his way through the night. Unflappable stuff.
Matt Targett 8
So composed. Nobody looked like getting past him.

What more can you say about United's midfield enforcer. Another sturdy game in midfield.
Jonjo Shelvey 8
Passed with purpose and intent. Playing some of his best stuff at Newcastle.
Bruno Guimaraes 9
Brings so much class to the table. Fine ball over to set up the winner for Almiron Some key interceptions and tackles. No wonder he got standing ovation.
Allan Saint-Maximin 8
Enjoyed his night as he twisted and turned and kept Palace on the back-foot. Impressed with some lovely moments.
Miguel Almiron 9
Enjoyed his big moment with a wonderful finish. Looked a threat from the first minute. Seven attempts on goal and could have had a penalty. Edged man of the match award due to nature of important winning goal.
Chris Wood 8
May not have found the net but made some key defensive contributions. Helped run the clock down when it was needed.
