Newcastle 0-0 Leicester player ratings: Ridiculous Trippier touch count and Longstaff star man

Newcastle United had to settle for a draw against Leicester City but they were able to enjoy qualifying for the Champions League for the first time since 2003.

On a night in which they peppered the Leicester goal with 23 attempts and hit the woodwork twice, Howe will be pleased with his team's efforts against the Foxes. But in the end they could not find a way past Daniel Iverson in the visitors' goal.

Here's how the players rated overall:

Nick Pope 7

Was a spectator fo most of the night but pulled off a big save in stoppage time to deny Castagne.

Kieran Trippier 8

Dominated down the right with a ridiculous 162 touches.

Fabian Schar 8

Jamie Vardy went off without getting a sniff after Schar's polished defensive display.

Sven Botman 8

Solid as a rock.

Dan Burn 7

A cool and calm display as he headed clear throughout.

Sean Longstaff 8

Scooped the man of the match award on his return with a display of solidity in the middle. Offered a goal threat too, but his return to midfield brought back much-needed stability.

Elliot Anderson 8

A really good display from the youngster as he got stuck into this crunch occasion. Had 55 touches and curled an effort at goal that tested Iverson.

Bruno Guimaraes 7

Lucky to stay on with a wild challenge. Missed a sitter against the post in the second half.

Miguel Almiron 7

Caused a few problems without being at his very best.

Alexander Isak 7

A quality forward but did not get the goals for his efforts here.

Callum Wilson 7

Denied by the woodwork and had three other attempts including one that was cleared off the line. Subbed with 21 minutes left.

Subs

Allan Saint-Maximin 6 (for Wilson 69)

Did not make much impact.

Jacob Murphy (for Anderson 78)

Anthony Gordon (for Almiron 88)

Here's how the players rated in the first half:

Nick Pope 7

Has been relatively untroubled for most of the first half. He even came out to head a casual pass to Bruno like the pair were playing beach football.

Kieran Trippier 7

Dependable once again. Little wonder he's just been voted player of the season at St James' Park.

Fabian Schar 8

Vardy has barely managed a kick. Let alone an effort at goal. Polished stuff from the Switzerland defender who has won it all in the air.

Sven Botman 7

Breezing through another game at the top level.

Dan Burn 6

Solid if unspectacular so far.

Sean Longstaff 7

The return of some much-needed balance in midfield coincides with Longstaff's return. Kept it simple and played it around with confidence.

Elliot Anderson 8

Has had some good moments and is working hard. Leicester resorting to fouls to stop him.

Bruno Guimaraes 6

Survived borderline moment for a challenge on Soumare. Could be deemed lucky to still be on.

Miguel Almiron 7

Another good display with the playmaker causing problems down the right.

Alexander Isak 6

Yet to make a big impact. Another on a yellow card after an unnecessary challenge

Callum Wilson 7

Struck the post then had one cleared off the line.
