Newcastle United 2-0 Leicester player ratings: Joelinton gets a 10 and Trippier impresses

Newcastle United are STILL on the road to Wembley after a stunning 2-0 win over Leicester City.

The Magpies dominated the early stages and could have taken the lead when Sean Longstaff fired over from close range. Bruno Guimaraes then went close with two longer-range efforts as the home side controlled the game.

But goals after the break from Dan Burn and Joelinton sealed their place in the last four. Newcastle march on in the League Cup and do so after a routine win over the Foxes.

Here are the full-time ratings after Newcastle's quarter-final clash with the Foxes.

Nick Pope 8

A very cool customer. Dealt well with any Leicester pressure and held his nerve with Vardy twice bearing in on him. Another clean sheet for the collection.

Kieran Trippier 8

Used his experience to haul Newcastle through. Always looked to deliver from the dead balls and open play.

Fabian Schar 8

Recovered from an early knock to put in a polished display.

Sven Botman 8

Marshalled the defence excellently. Another great show as he swept and cleared all night.

Dan Burn 9

What a story. What a season. What a goal. What a guy.

Bruno Guimaraes 9

Ran the show in another flawless display. Pinged it around for fun.

Sean Longstaff 8

Missed a great chance after 51 seconds. Recovered well and forced some good saves out of Ward.

Joe Willock 8

Had Leicester on the back-foot and created some presentable opportunities. Late shot whistled wide, good show.

Miguel Almiron 9

A productive half after laying on some decent openings. Threaded the ball through for the match sealing moment.

Joelinton 10

Absolutely immense. Delivered the big moment in a big game with a wonderful finish. That's before we talk about the bucketload of interceptions and tackles.

Callum Wilson 8

Didn't have too many clear-cut chances and maybe should have had a penalty. Worked hard and is due a goal or two. Defended from the front.

Subs

Alexander Isak (for Wilson 78)

Allan Saint-Maximin (for Almiron 83)

Jacob Murphy (for Willock 89)
