An 11-hour-old baby girl in northern Gaza suffered a head wound when a strike hit her house just moments after she was brought home from the hospital where she was born. The strike tragically killed the newborn girl’s father and uncle, and injured her mother and grandmother, according to Fares Afana, the chief of emergency services in the area.
The baby girl was seen receiving stitches to a wound at the bottom of her neck in a video from the hospital where the family was being treated for injuries. The mother of the newborn baby is in critical condition at Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza, receiving treatment in the intensive care unit, as confirmed by the hospital director, Dr. Hussam Abu Saifiya.
Despite the devastating incident, the baby girl was reported to be stable and was being cared for next to her mother in the hospital. The Israel Defense Forces stated that they were not aware of a strike in the area at the time described by witnesses, but mentioned the need for exact coordinates to verify the incident.
The baby’s grandfather, who was also injured in the strike, shared that the newborn girl, who had not yet been named, was born at 1 a.m. on Friday and was on her way home with her parents when the tragic event occurred. He emphasized the peaceful nature of their family, expressing a plea for an end to the violence and stating that they have no involvement in any conflict.
This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the toll that conflicts can take on innocent civilians, including newborn babies who have just entered the world. Our thoughts are with the family affected by this tragedy, and we hope for a swift recovery for the injured individuals.
