A businessman came off worse when he suffered broken ribs during a lawful arrest when he spat at a police officer. Christopher Mann was drunk when he kicked off after his wife locked him out.
Nottingham Crown Court heard police were called to the Nottinghamshire address by Mann's wife. He made threats towards her, was agitated, and swearing at police on November 21, 2022.
Mann was arrested when he said he had nowhere else to go. He spat towards one officer and attempted to headbutt him.

David Webster, prosecuting, told the court Mann was lawfully arrested and became increasingly uncooperative. He explained officers felt it necessary to exercise, albeit responsibly, very substantial force, "that has to be conceded". "Your honour knows how difficult these things can be for officers", he added.
The officer had some spit hit him in the face and felt "disgusted". He had bruising and swelling to his right hand and a twisted knee.
Self-employed solar panel fitter, Mann, 53, of John Gold Avenue, Newark, pleaded guilty on Thursday (May 25) to assaulting the officer. Judge Stuart Rafferty KC fined him £500, saying he had been "incredulous" in his drunkeness - and was the one who came off worse.
"Spitting was involved - which really was the high point of disgracefulness," added the judge.
