Residents in a town on the border of Nottinghamshire are divided over whether it feels more like Nottinghamshire or Lincolnshire. Despite being classed as Nottinghamshire and having an NG postcode, many residents in Newark feel more part of Lincolnshire.
Some people claim this is due to "easier" transport links to Lincoln - despite the fact residents are 20 miles from each county's city. However, other residents argue Newark feels Nottinghamshire, due to its position on the River Trent, history and connection to other Nottinghamshire towns and villages.
Retired Ian Scott, 70, of Newark, said: "I think we are more Lincolnshire actually. It just seems easier to get to for a start, but that's just me personally.

"I don't like Nottingham personally and my wife used to go to Lincoln regularly when there was a bus." A mum of two in her 30s, who did not wish to be named, said: "It's tricky because we're between both, and although this is technically Nottinghamshire I don't know, I tend to go to Lincoln than Nottingham because it's easier and feels closer."
Newark resident Nick Abraham, 62, said: "I've only been here six or seven years but I would say 100 percent Nottinghamshire. Even though we are on the cusp of Lincolnshire - and Leicestershire is only five or so miles down the road with Bottesford.
"I would be more likely to go to Nottingham than Lincoln even though they are more or less equal distance. I just think that everybody is going to have more of a link to one county or another."
Market trader Nigel Hyde, 64, of Newark, also agrees that the town is more Nottinghamshire. He said: "Nottinghamshire as it's always been Newark, Nottinghamshire."
When asked about the easy travel routes to each city, he described them as "fine" but added that you get so much traffic going between the two he is looking forward to a new bypass being built as it "should have been done right from the start."
Another Newark resident, Michael Creamer, 61, strongly feels the town is more Nottinghamshire. He explained: "Well because it says Newark, Nottinghamshire and we are on the River Trent."
When asked if he prefers to go to one city over another, he replied: "I just go wherever I need to go, we don't need passports. This is Newark, Nottinghamshire." When asked if he felt more Nottinghamshire or Lincolnshire, a Newark resident in his 50s who did not wish to be named said: "Only when it comes to wages as we are still classed as agricultural even though we are in Nottinghamshire, as we border with Lincolnshire."
