New Zealand rugby league international Kevin Proctor has been sacked by the Gold Coast Titans after vaping in a toilet cubicle during half-time of his team’s clash against Canterbury Bulldogs. Proctor was not in the match day squad but still travelled with his team.
It was the Bulldogs who secured victory, as they defeated the Titans 36-26 at Commbank Stadium, leaving Proctor’s former side just one place off the bottom in the NRL. Now, as well as problems on the pitch it seems the club have them off too, following the sacking of their former skipper.
Proctor’s dismissal comes after he posted a now deleted seven-second video on his Instagram story of him smoking an E-Cigarette during half-time in a cubicle.
Along with the video, the New Zealand international included the caption: “Not the half-time vape,” before swiftly deleting the clip from the view of his followers. All forms of smoking are banned in stadiums in Australia.
This has led to the harsh punishment of Proctor, as his sacking was confirmed by the club on Monday. They wrote in a statement: “The Gold Coast Titans have sanctioned Kevin Proctor after being made aware of an incident during yesterday’s round 19 fixture against the Bulldogs.
“Proctor has also been released from his commitments with the club for the remainder of the year and will not return to train or play with the squad. His actions were in breach of both NRL and stadium regulations.”
In the wake of his sacking Proctor has been linked with a move to the Super League with the Daily Telegraph reporting that Salford Red Devils, Wakefield Trinity and Hull FC are all interested.
