A group of New Yorkers bravely intervened and apprehended a suspect in a horrifying rape case involving a 13-year-old victim. The suspect, identified as Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, a 25-year-old from Ecuador, had entered the country illegally in 2021 near Eagle Pass, Texas.
Prior to the incident, Inga-Landi had a history of arrests in Texas and multiple infractions in New York City. The assault took place in a Queens park, where he allegedly forced two 13-year-olds into the woods at knifepoint, sexually assaulted one of them, and stole their phones before fleeing the scene.
Following the release of a sketch and surveillance footage of the suspect, local residents in Corona recognized him and detained him until law enforcement arrived. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny commended the community for their swift action, with at least 10 individuals seen on bodycam footage assisting in the apprehension.
Jeffrey Flores, a local resident, played a crucial role in identifying and capturing Inga-Landi, recounting his vigilance in monitoring the suspect's movements until the opportune moment arose for his capture.
Despite Inga-Landi's attempts to resist, the community members managed to subdue him and prevent his escape. He sustained minor injuries during the altercation and was subsequently taken into custody.
The assault occurred at Kissena Park, a few miles from Citi Field, the site of the New York Mets' games, and in close proximity to the 1964 World's Fair and the U.S. Open. Inga-Landi, described as a Hispanic male in his 20s with distinctive tattoos, was expected to face charges including rape, kidnapping, and other felonies.
As he was escorted to court for arraignment, onlookers expressed their disdain for the suspect, reflecting the community's outrage over the heinous crime. Police highlighted the importance of addressing minor offenses to prevent more serious crimes and enhance law enforcement efforts.
